English as an Additional Language

Ensuring that families whose first language is not English understand safeguarding processes and meeting content is crucial for their safety. Language barriers can lead to misunderstandings, preventing these families from fully grasping important information. Providing clear translations and using interpreters during meetings can bridge this gap, fostering trust, inclusivity, and effective communication, contributing to a safer environment for everyone involved.

Language Line Solutions offers schools a range of services to overcome language barriers and enhance communication with young people and their families. These services include on-demand and in-person interpretation, document translation, and video interpreting in over 240 languages. They help schools comply with language access mandates, increase parental involvement, and ensure effective communication during meetings, open houses, and parent-teacher conferences. Additionally, Language Line provides support for young people and family members who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities

Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) is an evidence-based parenting approach that trains local parents to lead groups supporting other parents. It combines peer-led parenting groups with training and supervision provided by parenting specialists. The goal is to develop parenting techniques and create supportive communities.

Open to parents or carers of children aged 2–11 years, this free course is designed to help parents and carers feel more confident, manage family stress, and build stronger relationships with their children. The EPEC Being a Parent course is delivered by other parents who understand the challenges of raising children because they have been there, too.

This 8-week course is packed with practical tools to help parents/carers:

Manage their child’s behaviour in a positive way
Handle stress
Understand and manage emotions
Improve communication, listening, and play skills
Build stronger parent-child relationships
Explore parenting roles, expectations, and cultural influences

This course is interactive, supportive, and friendly - no lectures, just real conversations and practical tips that parents and carers can use every day.

Unlike other parenting courses, Being a Parent is run by parent volunteers who have completed specialist training. They bring their own real-life experiences, creating a welcoming, relatable space where parents feel heard and supported.

The volunteers are continuously supported by the EPEC Hub Coordinators to ensure their practice is high quality, safe, and effective.
